For Mathilde’s 27th birthday, we takled a new bickpacking.com route called Four by Four. It started near the cottage in Charlevoix and is almost entirely a gravel (and some MTB route). The orginal route starts in L’Anse St-Jean but we started at the parking of Zec du Lac-au-Sable near Clermont which saved us a 3 hour round trip drive.
Near Clermont, we biked through some trails that barey showed up on google but were really nice. I want t eventually post the gpx file on bikepacking as it was a really nice way to avoid the big 138 road and stay on forest paths. Though we did bike by some nice farming roads.
The first day we climbed around 1500m in 50km on roads that looked like these. Some were very steep but was pretty nice.
Pic of Mat near the peak!
Random nice river.
End of the second day was really fast and downhill. This farmhouse looked picturesque with the mountains in the background.
Mat bought a Surly Midnight Special for this trip, what a nice bike good for everything. A lot of this bike was actual mountain biking and it help up really well, maybe just bigger tires next time.
On the last day with two big climbs left, my chain broke twice… :(
Picture at the car of my bike. Really nice trip, highly recommend!
