Before starting summer research jobs at Sandia and Mat starting residency in Montreal, we realized we had some time to go on a bike trip. Always wanted to do the west coast bike tour. We started from Portland, OR and finished in LA, CA around 2500km. It was a really nice trip, we camped, we biked throught pretty remote parts of the US and discovered how busy some of Highway 1 is. Here are some pictures.
We biked through a bunch of vineyards and flower farms just outside portland, this was pretty much the only part where we weren’t on the coast.
The first taste of the coast. Oregon was my favorite part of the trip, it was so beautiful and remote - but we did go through some rainy/windy sections - PNW vibes.
Some pics of our bikes along what looks like a very surfable coast.
Mat trying to spot some whales.
A campground in Oregon. Oregan camping was amazing, had specific hiker/biker spots for 5$ with free showers and lockers.
Made it to Cali!
A nice film picture of me looking at some Cali coast.
Redwoods! Bike looked tiny in comparison.
Our bikes at the Golden Gate!
Us at the Golden Gate!
Navigating through forest fires.
View from the top of one of the cols.
This was a detour from what is supposed to be the nicest bike path in America - Nacimiento-Furgeson.
Biking along.
Another one biking along.
Crazy picture, looked like Hawaii, I thinkl this was near Big Sur.
Signs of the LA fires a couple months before.
Our final destination, CalTech! Overall a great trip, highly recommend.
